Passion & connection.
The key to great marketing

I love building websites for people

In my first office-based role in the early 1990s, I offered to see if I could “build a website” as web developers were few and far between. There were no drag-and-drop editors in those distant days. After self-taught trial and error in a new tech industry (mostly dominated by men), I designed her first website in notepad using HTML code.

Over 30 years of experience later and I have a lifetime of enjoying this industry. In my choirs, I have been and still am the marketing and social media officer in several groups – and here we are today.

I adore writing and creating content

The key to a fabulous website that attracts customers is top-quality informative content – both written and media including video. If you want to go to the top of the organic search engine rankings using SEO and make the most of your Pay Per Click or paid social media advertising, you need fabulous, engaging and well-written content in your well-optimised blogs and pages.

And to convert those customers, you need super persuasive copywriting using clever techniques that’ll get people to become your future customers.

Fascinated by what makes people tick

I enjoy working with people and have a lifetime passion for understanding how people think, make decisions, and what makes them happy. I have worked with children, adults from many walks of life, business people, singers and tradesmen.

What I learn, then gets applied to my marketing strategies. This allows me to make the most of Pay per Click, social media, landing pages, email campaigns, and sales funnels (and generally how I live my life).

A first-generation tech child

I’m a first-generation tech child. Never mind these millennials and Gen Z’s – I was definitely one of the original digital natives as a Gen X.

Born in the 1970s and 1980s, I was surrounded by the latest, coolest technology growing up. We had the “latest” computers when no one else had them because her dad worked in the flight sim industry.

In the early 80s, I remember doing basic coding on their Commodore 64 as a young child inspired by a book from the local library. and filling the screen with her name.

And I dreamed of talking to people on the computer and “animated” books full of endless facts about everything – with little more than a touch of a button and voice control. In fact, I even wrote a story about it in primary school, and now, many years later, I wasn’t far from wrong about the future!

Influenced by dad – Bob

My dad Bob filled the house with the latest gadgets and computers as they appeared. A tech geek.

He may have been totally wrong about Betamax being better than VHS and what would become popular. Yet he helped develop voice recognition, virtual reality, moving cockpits and the technology behind flight simulators.

I learned how hard it was to get these things to where they are nowadays. They were beyond rubbish in the beginning. Voice recognition was totally useless at first and required expensive microphones and software- and it still didn’t work accurately – if at all.

Dad’s first “brick” mobile got stolen.

I remember the first mobile phone her dad had. A brick-like heavy box battery with a phone with a curly cable. It weighed several kilos.

It got stolen after they had worked at a computer show in London.

The thief couldn’t have it away quickly as it didn’t fit in a pocket. In fact, you could barely carry it!

Such a contrast to today’s technology.

My first website was coded in Notepad.

In 1994 I started an office assistant job in a small mail-order company doing their marketing as part of the position. There I volunteered to work out how to build a website from being completely clueless. No one knew how to do it, so I stepped in.

In those days, you could only write HTML code in notepad. So I worked out how to create her first website using an ancient CompuServe dial-up phone internet connection and after ordering and studying books from the local library. And most of the HTML code remains exactly the same – even after nearly 30 years in the business.

Why I still love marketing.

It’s grown from there. Everywhere I’ve gone over the years, I’ve been marketing and building websites for all the jobs I’ve undertaken and the social groups I’ve been part of. I enjoy coaching people on how to do marketing and website building. I’m always on my social media, love doing a reel or a YouTube video, and have been on the radio or coming up with a hair-brain scheme to get my cause noticed. And it works.

It’s not like work to me. I love it.

And with those years of experience, I can now help you. My children are growing up and starting to live their own lives, and I finally have the time to run my marketing business.

Let me shine your light brightly by building your websites, website development, SEO, mastering the art of persuasion and helping improve your overall marketing too.”

You can’t go wrong.

I’m human and love life. What I also enjoy doing besides work.

My dog Archie is usually not far away from her side. He is interested in his favourite bone-shaped dog biscuits and squeaky soft duck. He enjoys the summer in the garden and potters behind her, digging up her bulbs!

You’ll find Mary leading a choir in Bristol each week- Avon Harmony A Cappella as their musical director. In addition, she sings in several different barbershop choruses/quartets and has Gold and Silver medals for her singing both in the UK and Europe. And she has a Youtube Channel, recorded covers, writes a singing blog and makes practice tracks for singing groups.

When not at work, she’ll be out a couple of times a week running. After taking it up in 2020 during lockdown from barely being able to run for more than a few seconds. Then did the Virtual London marathon in 2021. This proves that anything is possible for her daughters if they work hard and have a plan. Mary raised a lot of money for Barnardos.

Mary is a busy person who loves to try anything that she might like – just because she can. Life is for living.
